In this "Is Beachbody a Pyramid Scheme? The Ugly Truth..." article I will reveal all you need to know about the program, my likes, my dislikes, whether you can make money by being a Beachbody coach and what alternative solutions you have.

Before we dive in though, let me warn you that whether you decide to become a Beachbody coach, or pursue any other online business adventure, you can only make things work for you if you learn how to do marketing the right way.

If you wish to know how you can do that, then please watch this eye-opening video I have created for you 🙂

What is Beachbody?

Beachbody is a fitness, weight loss, and muscle building home-exercise videos company founded in 1998 and currently based in Santa Monica, California.

Teambeachbody is part of the company, but was only launched in 2007 with the aim of selling products and services using a multi-level marketing system.

According to directsellingnews.com a total of $863 million were made by the company selling fitness programs and nutritional supplements.

But does that mean that Beachbody coaches can actually make money?

How to become a Beachbody coach

In order to become a Beachbody coach, you have to head to the sign up page and fill in the form.

When you sign up as a coach, you are given a Digital Business Starter Kit which includes things such as:

  • Digital Coach Welcome Book
  • Coaching Tools such as the tracker app, training, and marketing materials.
  • Support from the Team Beachbody community

You are also given the option to purchase a challenge pack, which is simply an all-in-one bundle of fitness, nutrition, and support.

Here are the different challenge packs to choose from –> Beachbody challenge packs

How much are Beachbody coach fees?

Signing up to become a Team Beachbody Coach costs $39.95.

However, if you purchase a Beachbody Challenge Pack during the sign up process, the initial $39.95 fee is waved.

After 30 days, you are then automatically billed $15.95 per month.

The monthly fee covers a personalized website, training, reporting, and so on.

What are the Beachbody coach levels?

The Beachbody coach levels are:

  • Coach
  • Emerald
  • Ruby
  • Diamond
  • 1-15 Star Diamond

Here are the requirements for each level:

How Do you advance your rank in Beachbody?

Here is a video that explains how to advance your Beachbody rank:

Beachbody Compensation Plan

The full details of the Beachbody Compesation Plan can be found here (Page 33).

In a nutshell, here is how Beachbody coaches can make money:

  • Retail Commissions (Paid weekly to all Coach Ranks): Earn up to 25% commission on the retail sales price of Beachbody products you sell through your Team Beachbody Website. Coaches will continue to earn commissions from that same customer as long as the customer remains attached to the coach
  • Beachbody On Demand Membership Commissions (Subscription Commissions paid weekly to all Coach Ranks): Earn 40% commission on the sales and renewals of Beachbody On Demand memberships.
  • Shakeology Fast Start Bonus (Paid weekly to all Coach Ranks): Earn a $20 bonus whenever one of your sponsored coaches purchases a Shakeology Home Direct Starter Pack
  • Shakeology Fast Start Plus Bonus (Paid weekly to all Coach Ranks): Earn a $100 bonus whenever you receive 5 Shakeology Fast Start bonuses in a consecutive 5-week period
  • Challenge Pack Fast Start Bonus (Paid weekly to all Coach Ranks): Earn a bonus whenever one of your newly recruited coaches purchases a Challenge Pack
  • Star Diamond Bonus (Paid quarterly): Only 2 Star Diamonds and above are eligible to participate

Can Beachbody coaches make money?

I personally have Beachbody On Demand and think it is fantastic.

I dislike exercising in public and Beachbody do have some great workouts that appeal to many people like me.

The problem with making money with Beachbody or any other MLM is that the wrong marketing strategies are used.

All partners, consultants, coaches or whatever you want to call them depending on the MLM opportunity tend to behave the same way:

  1. They put a lot of emphasis in recruiting other people, making you lose your main purpose, which in Beachbody’s case is helping people get healthy
  2. Upline coaches tend to push their team to constantly promote products on their personal social media account which will only annoy family and friends
  3. They tend to cold message people, coming across as desperate

Here is the 2017/2018 earning report of the Beachbody coaches:

Beachbody Statement of Independent Coach Earnings

As you can see, the average yearly earnings of 80% of the coaches was under $3000 and that is without taking their expenses into account.

I believe you can make an MLM work, but only if you know how to do marketing right (More on this later).

Why Beachbody coaches are quitting

I believe this video from an ex Beachbody coach pretty sums it all up.

She also mentions things which I have already talked about, such as the whole nuisance of having to bother friends and families or cold messaging people.

My advice is that you watch it all 🙂

Is Beachbody a pyramid scheme?

Making money with a pyramid schemes means earning exclusively from recruiting people.

Despite Beachbody having the recruiting aspect of a pyramid scheme and putting a lot of emphasis on it, coaches can also make money selling products.

This means that Beachbody is an MLM and not a Pyramid Scheme.

My Beachbody likes and dislikes

Here is what I like about Beachbody:

  • Many workouts to choose from
  • Beachbody On Demand gives you plenty of exercises to help you lose weight and it costs way less than a joining gym
  • The instructors understand that we are not on the same fitness level and they give you modifications for every exercise
  • There are different ways of making an income as a Beachbody coach

What I do not like:

  • Constantly promoting supplements such as Shakeology, to the point that they make you believe that you cannot reach your desired results without it. We all know that nothing can replace the real food out there!
  • I have yet to see one of the trainers say something like “You need commit to regular exercising for the rest of your life if you want to stay forever healthy”. Everything just seems to be aimed at a short term fix.
  • I absolutely hate the way any MLM like Beachbody throw their consultants out there without giving them effective marketing training

How to make money the right way

Now, here are a couple of suggestions from me if you still want to try to make money with Beachbody. Go with either one or the other:

  • Find yourself a coach, understand their marketing approach and if they start telling you “how pestering people on social media” is the way to go, then walk away. If you can find a coach who is happy to let you do your thing, then give it a go but learn how to market properly first
  • Leave the Beachbody coaching idea alone and become a Beachbody affiliate instead. This way you still get to make money by promoting their products (10% commission), but you won’t have to be dealing with recruiting, being pressured by your coach and so on. Here is the link to Beachbody Affiliate Program

If after reading this review you have changed your mind and feel like you would rather pursue a different business career, then here are two different options to choose from:

  • Create your own fitness program and promote it
  • Find someone else’s fitness program you like and become an affiliate. This will allow you to just concentrate on the marketing side of things, rather than also having to create a new product from scratch

Regardless of the option you pick, there is one important thing you need to do first: Learn how to do marketing the right way, so that you can make money 🙂
