Are you looking to learn how to create a free blogging website in 2019? Creating a blog is pretty easy nowadays with all the simplified tools that have been built for non techies!
The hard part of creating a blog is actually trying to be consistent and writing content regularly, as well as attracting visitors.
In this easy guide, I will teach you how to get started with blogging and I will do so by recommending the tools I personally use.
So what do you need to start a blog for free?
Firstly, let’s look at the essential bits that you will need to start blogging 🙂
- Choose a niche you are passionate about
- Blogging platform, domain name and hosting
- Build your blog
- Write content in your blog
- Attract visitors to your blog organically
Don’t be put off by the long list above, as I will be walking you through the process.
I promise there won’t be anything too technical and that you will not need to know how to code!
Let me break down all the above steps for you…
Choose a niche you are passionate about
There is nothing worse than having to spend time on something you dislike.
I am assuming you want to know how to start a blog because you either want to be able to share what you write with an audience, or perhaps you even want to monetise your blog.
Either way, you will want to choose a niche you are passionate about, as it will help you stick to your commitment of writing regular content.
There is no good or bad niche out there. You can make money pretty much with anything, as long as you put hard work into it.
Blogging platform, domain name and hosting
I use a platform that allows me to have all of the above in one place.
Having everything in one place will make this process very easy!
Go to Wealthy Affiliate and sign up for a FREE account.
There is a premium option but you do not need to go premium if you do not want to.
Signing up for the free option does not require any credit card details and it will stay free forever.
Enter your email and click on “Get Started”
You will now be prompted to the screen below, where you will be asked to fill in a few more details:
Click on “Get Started Now” and this is what you will see next:
I recommend you start the tour to get a feel for the platform but if you wish to skip, then you will automatically start lesson one.
The free Wealthy Affiliate subscription gives you access to module one of the “Online Entrepreneur Certification“. This will help you gain an understanding of how to get started with making money online but most importantly, in your case, how to set up your website for free.
Build your blog
Here is what you will do in module one of the “Online Entreprenuer Certification” in Wealthy Affiliate:
- Understanding how to make money online
- Choosing a Niche
- Building your website (including having your own free domain)
- Getting your website ready for search engines
- Creating your initial content
- Creating custom menus on your website
Everything has been laid out step by step and includes videos walk-through, so that by the end of module one, you will have your very own website all set up for you 🙂
You will then have 2 options:
- Continue as a free member and just get on with your content
- Upgrade to premium to follow the rest of the course and get the most out of it
It is up to you. If you do not want to spend the money, you can just run your website for FREE.
Please notice that by remaining as a starter member, your website domain will look something like “www.example-site-rubix.com” instead of “www.example.com”.
You can still make money with a domain name like that but it will be less memorable. You might want to upgrade to premium in the future, to take your business to the next level!
Write content in your blog
The great thing about Wealthy Affiliate is that they have their own site content manager, which helps you with the following:
- Knowing when you have reached at least 1000 words (minimum length of a blog post)
- Ensuring you are laying out the content nicely, by using short paragraphs and multiple headings
- Checking for spelling mistakes
Here are some rules to follow when writing a new blog post:
- Make it to at least 1000 words or more. The more words you have, the more keywords your post will have to rank in Google!
- Don’t use any kind of complicated sentences. Talk to your readers like you would to a friend.
- Make helping people your top priority. Helping people will lead to growing traffic, which will lead to sales. Don’t just try to turn your blog into a massive sales pitch.
- Choose titles based on long-tail low competition keywords

Attract visitors to your blog organically
Nobody will visit your blog initially, at least not organically.
You can share your posts on social media to gain a few visitors but that will be pretty much it for the first few months.
Don’t be discouraged… It is normal 🙂
Google needs time to gain your trust!
How do you gain Google’s trust? By consistently writing relevant content and following a few rules that I mentioned in How to Improve Ranking in Google – 9 Simple Steps
Eventually, visitors will start coming to you, but you have got to put a lot of time and effort into your content first!
Conclusion: Take advantage of what Wealthy Affiliate can teach you!
As I said, Wealthy Affiliate‘s starter membership will be enough for you to get your FREE website up and running and start blogging.
However, without knowing how to go about creating good content, learning SEO and so on, it will be hard for you to make money with your blog.
This is what you will get by upgrading to premium:
Your first month will only be $19!
